Edward Liu, Alberto L. Sangiovanni-Vincentelli, Georges Gielen, and Paul R. Gray Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences University of California Berkeley, California 94720 Abstract This paper presents a behavioral representation for the class of Nyquist rate A/D converters. The representation captures the nominal A/D behavior, as well as all the statistical variations. The variations are classi ed into noise and process variations according to how these non-idealities a ect the A/D behavior. To describe noise e ects we use a joint probability density function. To describe behavioral e ects due to process variations we use a variance-covariance matrix, t, which is a generalization of the integral nonlinearity vector. t's rank characterizes the testability of an A/D; its decomposition yields e cient strategies for A/D testing. Finally, parameter extraction results obtained from prototypes are presented.

متن کاملImproving adaptive resolution of analog to digital converters using least squares mean method
This paper presents an adaptive digital resolution improvement method for extrapolating and recursive analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). The presented adaptively enhanced ADC (AE-ADC) digitally estimates the digital equivalent of the input signal by utilizing an adaptive digital filter (ADF). The least mean squares (LMS) algorithm also determines the coefficients of the ADF block. In this sch...
متن کاملBlind On-line Digital Calibration of Multi-stage Nyquist-rate and Oversampled A/d Converters
A linear calibration technique for on-line digital correction of analog imprecisions in the implementation of multi-stage analog-todigital converters, is presented. The calibration is ‘blind’, in that it uses no reference and operates directly on the digital output during conversion. The only assumption made on the input signal is that its spectrum is bandlimited. The excess sampling over Nyqui...
متن کاملUnambiguous characterization and specification of D/A converter performance
* This work was supported, in part, by Texas Instruments Inc., Rocketchips Inc, and the R. J. Carver trust. Abstract – Existing parameters used to characterize the performance of D/A converters are often not rigorously defined or are based upon ambiguous nested definitions. This makes it difficult for the user to determine how a particular D/A will really perform in a specific application and l...
متن کاملFRC: A Method for Extending the Resolution of Nyquist Rate Converters Using Oversampling - Circuits and Systems II: Analog and Digital Signal Processing, IEEE Transactions on
Nyquist rate converters have traditionally been used for low to moderate resolution data acquisition applications. In this paper, we describe a feedforward residue compensation (FRC) technique to extend the resolution of such converters using an oversampling modulator loop. Closed-form analytical expressions are developed to provide insight into the operation and limits on the resolution of suc...
